Yuletide Magick & Spells
Winter Solstice is a time of new beginnings.
Yule celebrates rebirth from death, light from darkness, and change so
spells and
rituals dedicated to the blessing of a new endeavor or the growth of personal skills,
loving relationships, business ventures, etc. are especially powerful at this time.
It's a good idea to spend some time cleaning and clearing out the old to make room
for the new ideas, plans, relationships and good fortune you hope to draw to you in
the coming year.
Cleaning Ritual
from
Yule: A Celebration of Light and Warmth
by Dorothy Morrisson
Go through your belongings. If you can't wear it, eat it or use it, get rid of it.
As you sort, visualize any worn-out thought patterns, perceptions or notions that block your success
being tossed into the discard pile. Place all your house clutter into a basket or box before
you start cleaning. Put everything back in its place after the scrubbing is done.
Grab the broom and use it to free ceilings and walls of dirt and cobwebs. As you
sweep, sing the following chant to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb":
As I sweep and sing this song
Useless stuff be now gone
Clear out now you cannot stay
Make room for a brighter day.
Prosperity Candles
from
Wheel of the Year: Living the Magical Life
by Pauline Campanelli
Burn a pair of bayberry candles on Yule as a charm to insure growth and prosperity
for the new year. To enhance the magic of the candles, anoint them with Magnetic Oil
(oil in which a magnetite crystal has soaked from New Moon to Full)
[Note: In spells and rituals, intent is key! Focus all your energy on what you want,
visualizing it coming to pass as clearly as you can.]
Love Simmering Potpourri
from
Spell Crafts: Creating Magical Objects
by Scott Cunningham
To expand, broader or to introduce love into your life, simmer this mixture of herbs.
(This can also be used to strengthen a longstanding relationship or to bring your
own family closer together. Love begins within. Love yourself, then seek another with
whom to share love.)
3 tbsp rose petals
2 tbsp camomile
1 tbsp coriander
1 tbsp lavender
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 vanilla bean
Mix in a small bowl and charge with loving energies. Simmer while saying:
Love awakens
In these rooms
Come by the power
Of these blooms
Snapdragon
from
The Winter Solstice by John & Caitlin Matthews
Fill a large shallow dish with raisins and pour a few spoonfuls of brandy over them.
Put out the lights then set light to the brandy and whilte it is still going snatch one
of the raisins from the flames
As you put the raisin in your mouth make a wish. It will be granted in the next twelve months
they say! [Note: Remember the law if three:
what you do will come back to you three fold, whether for good or ill, so
never perform any spell to harm or control as it will ultimately not only harm
your intended victim but also yourself.]
