Our visit to the John Lennon Imagine Mosaic in Central Park,
the Dakota & Cafe La Fortuna, John & Yoko's favorite New York City restaurant
Strawberry Fields is directly across from the Dakota. John and Yoko moved into their 6th
floor apartments in 1973. They lived there together until October of that year, when a
troubled and confused John
moved to Los Angeles without Yoko. They reunited in January 1975, John moved back into the
Dakota apartments and their son Sean was born on Oct 9, 1975 - the 35th anniversary of
John Lennon's birth; Sean was only five when his father was killed. Yoko still lives in the Dakota.
It's but a short walk from the West 72nd Street entrance of Central Park to Strawberry Fields, the
Imagine Mosaic and the Garden of Peace.
Below, my husband John by the Imagine Mosaic. Today, the peace sign overlaying the design is made up of
flowers and strawberries. It's always changing, depending on who's visiting; many people leave flowers,
some leave artwork, photos or other remembrances.
P.S. I decorated the shirt;
there's a peace sign on the sleeve you can't see. It was a cold day so he had to
wear two thermal layers underneath!
Me again, sitting by the mosaic. Even though it's a cold day in the middle of the work week,
Strawberry Fields has many visitors.
We stopped for lunch at the Cafe La Fortuna, which we heard had been one of John & Yoko's favorite
restaurants. It's a quaint little place on West 71st street, just a block from the Dakota.
Without a flash, this is the best picture I could get of the inside the Cafe which specializes in Italian meals and amazing sweets. Scroll down the page
for a closeup of the photo grouping of the Lennons above the mirror...
...in memory of John, with condolences to Yoko and Sean and Julian.
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one.
